Parents with young children often experience relationship challenges due to the stresses of parenting. They may also need help in order to better understand and support their child. We make it easy for parents to access expert emotional support and referrals to resources – including more intensive supports, if needed.
Child and Youth Counselling
Children in our community, ages 3-19, deal with a variety of challenges that can include anxiety, depression, trauma, sexual abuse, bullying, school stress, coming out, dating violence, suicidal thoughts, self-esteem and more. Experienced counsellors help these young community members to heal and to help them build the skills needed for a happier, healthier life.
Creating safety for children in a clinical context is paramount, and our team of therapists – in addition to using mainstream therapeutic frameworks – is also trained in play therapy and expressive arts approaches. Children who participate in child and youth counselling learn new ways of coping, understand how to reach out for help, and build on healthy ways to deal with life’s struggles.
Child and Youth Counselling – sexual abuse interventions
Our experienced therapists provide counselling to children who have survived sexual abuse. For some of these children, counselling is one of the only spaces in their lives where they can reach out and connect with a safe adult. The team works in partnership with these young people, and their trusted adults, to help build resiliency, create safety plans, and nurture hope.
Stopping the Violence counselling program
We provide trauma-informed counselling for women in our community, aged 19 and older, who have survived relationship abuse, sexual assault, and/or physical, emotional, or sexual abuse. Our experienced counsellors offer both individual and group counselling and approach all anti-violence work from a feminist-informed and strength-based perspective.
Lower- and no-fee counselling
FEES
The full fee for service is $110 per session hour (adult sessions are 50 minutes; play therapy sessions with adults and/or children are 40 minutes).
We also offer reduced fees, based on a sliding scale, for clients living or working on the North Shore. Clients applying for the sliding scale fee will provide the intake counsellor with proof of income and details about the number of individuals supported by the income.
Payment for services must be made at the time of service, when a receipt is issued. Payments can be made by cash, cheque, or Visa/MasterCard. Third-party coverage (e.g., extended health or Employee Assistance Program benefits) may apply.
Clients are responsible for researching or applying for any benefits. Please note that sessions must be cancelled 24 hours in advance, or the regular fee will be charged.
